Why should I choose your service over another in my area?
All About Home Care has achieved an excellent reputation as a top-quality caregiver service. Our growth has been due primarily to word-of-mouth referrals from satisfied clients and their families. We remain in close contact on a regular basis with our caregivers to ensure your satisfaction with all aspects of your care. We are happy to provide references or arrange for you to speak with a current client. All About Home Care is also locally owned and operated. We keep our dollars local and support senior services in the areas we serve.
What areas do you serve?
With our office located in Middletown, we are currently supporting clients in Newport and Bristol Counties.
Are your caregivers experienced?
Yes, in fact the average age of our employees is 51 years old, which is much more mature than most companies. We have wonderful Homemakers and Certified Nursing Assistants who truly have a passion for providing care – and they are OUR employees, thoroughly interviewed, screened and background checked, trained and oriented, bonded and insured. We try to find caregivers who have had the life experiences of raising their own children as well as caring for their parents or grandparents at some point in the past. We feel that these experiences are invaluable. One of the guiding philosophies of owner Kathleen Devlin is that she will never hire someone that she wouldn’t have felt comfortable placing with her own family.
What are your home care rates?
Because all services and schedules are tailored to the needs of the client, the rate of service for each client is determined at the initial assessment meeting, when our nurse meets with the client and/or the client’s family to get a good idea of the client’s situation and needs. There is no charge for the assessment visit.
What are my payment options?
There are a variety of payment options, the most popular ones are listed below.
Long-term care insurance – If you have a long-term care insurance policy, it will often pay for the care provided by All About Home Care. Since each policy is unique, please talk to your insurance company to verify coverage. We will be happy to work with you and/or your insurance company to determine eligibility requirements.
Private Pay – We accept personal checks and all four major credit cards.
Reverse Mortgages – Call us and we can refer you to a mortgage specialist who can answer questions on this funding resource.
Will Medicare or my private insurance reimburse for your services?
No. All About Home Care is not licensed to provide Medicare or private insurances.
A friend of mine said it might be cheaper to hire someone through an ad in the newspaper or privately. Should I do this?
We would strongly recommend not doing this, as there are a number of risks you take. First of all, this person will not be bonded should any of your valuables turn up missing. They will also likely not be insured for professional or general liability, thus if a professional error is made, you have no recourse. If they injure themselves lifting or working in your home, you may be responsible for their medical treatment and lost income, since they are probably not covered by workers compensation insurance. Furthermore, if the person is not reporting their income, you may be held liable for payroll taxes by the government. As well, you could be liable for unemployment benefits should you ever discontinue your relationship with that caregiver. Coverage of scheduled hours could be an issue if the private duty staff is ill or needs time off. And finally, there is no guarantee that they are properly trained to provide professional, trustworthy service to you or your loved one.
Do we have to sign a contract for a certain length of time?
No. To begin services we require a signed service agreement that doesn’t obligate you for any specific time. The purpose of the agreement is to review our services and to outline expectations. We do require a 12 hour notice for all cancellations in order for us to contact scheduled caregivers and inform them of the shift cancellation or change.
Can I change my services and/or my schedule after I sign the Service Agreement?
Yes. Simply call our office and speak with your Nurse Manager or our Staff Coordinator with any changes you would like to make.
How does billing work?
We bill for services already rendered. We send out an itemized bill every two weeks that is due upon receipt. We have many clients who authorize us to bill their major credit card for all invoices. To begin services, we collect a service deposit which can be paid by credit card. This service deposit equals the amount of two weeks worth of services and is fully refunded when we are no longer providing care. If there is an outstanding balance at the end of services, you can arrange to have the service deposit applied towards the final invoice(s).
May I receive your services in other settings besides my home?
Yes. Often we provide care in assisted livings, nursing facilities, hospitals, rehabilitation centers and other places. In some cases we may assist with the transition from one location to another, such as a rehabilitation facility to home or home to an assisted living residence.
How quickly can I have a caregiver if I want to start service for myself or my family right away?
Usually, we can place a caregiver with a client within a day or so. Of course, this is always dependent on the location of the client and the hours of coverage being requested. In addition, the Initial Assessment to develop the Plan of Care is important and will need to be completed by our Nursing department prior to our caregiver(s) starting services.
What is the difference between a caregiver, a homemaker, a certified nurse assistant or CNA, a companion, a certified homemaker, a home care aid, etc. etc.?
All About Home Care has Certified Homemakers and Certified Nurse Assistants (CNAs). We refer to all our staff as “Caregivers” but the major difference between our Certified Homemakers and our CNAs is the level of education they have completed and the services they are able to perform for you.
A Certified Homemaker – has completed a course which has been approved by the RI Department of Health and taught by a Registered Nurse. This course is twenty-five hours of education (20 classroom and 5 hours clinical experience) covering many topics such as; infection control, emergency procedures and care of the home. A “Homemaker (not Certified)”, a “CareGiver” or a “Companion” may have no training or not the extent required by the Department of Health in Rhode Island.
A Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) – is licensed by the State of Rhode Island after completing 120 hours of education (100 hours of classroom and 20 hours of practical) taught by a Registered Nurse. This paraprofessional course teaches skills many areas including Basic Human Needs, Caring for Patients with Specific Problems and Patient Rights.
Rhode Island dictates that certain services must be performed by a licensed Certified Nurse Assistant only. These services include: personal care skills, basic nursing skills and rehabilitation skills. Different agencies and organizations use different titles for their staff, but it is important that if you require the services outlined for a CNA that you utilize a Rhode Island licensed home health care agency and receive the services of a licensed Certified Nurse Assistant. Don’t ever hesitate to request a copy of your caregivers license or certification. Agencies are required to maintain a copy in their files for their CNAs and Certified Homemakers.
Will I always have the same caregiver?
All About Home Care makes every effort to send the caregiver with whom you are familiar. If your regular caregiver is unable to work a scheduled shift due to vacation, illness or some other emergency, we will do everything possible to find a suitable substitute. Naturally, we will keep you informed of any changes.
What happens if a caregiver is sick or needs vacation?
All About Home Care boasts one of the largest staff of professional caregivers in the area and so we can provide quick and responsive coverage when a caregiver is sick or needs time off. With the orientation from the Nurse Manager and because we provide a detailed care plan, which is left at each client’s home, our caregivers know exactly what needs to be done when filling in for someone else. If we have advance notice, such as possible, we will cross-train our substitute caregivers who have spent time in your home. We also communicate to the client and family members of this change to make sure they are comfortable with the temporary person we are sending.
Will I be able to reach a supervisor or someone at any time of day?
Yes. All About Home Care provides access to an on-call staff and an on-call nurse 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Why do your supervisory nurses come by? Is there something wrong?
No. Our nurses make it a point to visit every client on a regular basis, at least once every 90 days. We feel that by staying close to our clients and their assigned caregivers, we are better able to address each individual client’s changing needs. In addition, our Home Nursing Care Provider license requires that our nurse completes a visit with every client at least every 90 days.
